Terms of use
Published
These terms apply to chessplayonline.com. By using the site you agree to them. They are written to be short and readable.
Using the site
The game and the articles are free for personal, non-commercial use. You do not need an account. Please do not try to disrupt the site or its servers, for example by automated mass requests, by attempting to break the online matchmaking, or by using the online queue to run a chess engine against human opponents.
Online play and the community board
Online opponents are random members of the public. Be civil. Anything you post on the community board is public and should not include personal information, abuse, spam or content that is illegal. Posts may be removed at any time without notice.
Content
The articles, diagrams and site design belong to the site operator unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a link back. Please do not republish whole articles. Third-party software and assets used by the game are listed with their licences on the board assets page. Chess rules, openings and historical games themselves are not owned by anyone.
No warranty
The site is provided as it is. It is run by one person, and it may be unavailable, change, or lose saved data such as a game in progress or a score. Online games depend on outside servers that may fail. Articles are checked carefully, but mistakes are possible; if you find one, please report it. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for losses arising from use of the site.
Advertising and links
The site shows ads from Google. The operator does not control the content of individual ads and does not endorse the products advertised. Links to other websites, including the sites in our comparison page, are provided for convenience; those sites have their own terms.
Privacy
What the site stores is described in the privacy policy.
Changes
These terms may be updated. The date at the top shows the latest version.
